Teresa Sedge | Founder / Pilates Teacher
I am a married mum with two children and have lived in the local area since 2006. I have been interested in health and fitness for most of my life, starting at a young age in primary school running competitions to 15 mile runs, muddy obstacle races and cycling.
After leaving college, I worked in London for an international law firm where I sat at a desk for the best part of 9 hours a day. Having taken part in a few half marathons, I decided to have a complete change of career and left London to gain a Diploma in Fitness Training and Sports Therapy with Premier Training.
I worked as a trainer in local gyms and health clubs and used my Sports Therapy as a mobile massage therapist. Having taught and taken part in many formats of exercise classes I felt that Pilates gave me a real sense of connection with my body that other exercise classes didn’t.
I gained my Level 2 Pilates Matwork Certification with Michael King through the Pilates Institute in 2003 and then my Level 3, again with Michael through Fitness Industry Education in 2012. I have taught Pilates Matwork in health clubs and leisure centres around Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough and Wadhurst and worked with many clients in their own homes.
I started teaching my own Pilates classes at a hall in Crowborough in 2011 and built up from 2 classes a week to 5 classes.
I am now based in my own dedicated Pilates Studio and Therapy Room in Crowborough which allows me to host a wide range of Pilates classes, offer one to one Pilates sessions, and provide Sports Therapy treatments all in one place. Since setting up the Studio, I have taken my courses in the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Wunda Chair, the Ladder Barrel and the Spine Corrector and offer private/duet sessions on this equipment as well as Mixed Equipment classes.
I have also gained the following certification as part of my ongoing education:
- Pilates for Neurological Conditions (taken with Mariska Breland. Specifically, MS, Parkinsons and Stroke)
- Pelvic Floor Health
- Fix Your Feet
- Practical Fascia Release Methods
- Kids and Teens Pilates (APPI)
I love teaching Pilates and seeing the benefits my clients gain from regular practice.
I want everyone in my classes to gain a sense of real wellbeing from an improved posture.

Catherine Cristal
Physiotherapist and Pilates Teacher
I have worked for Teresa Sedge Pilates since it’s opening. I have always enjoyed movement and sport in a variety of ways from Ballet to Hockey, gym and fitness. I am a Specialist Musculoskeletal Outpatient Physiotherapist at MTW NHS Trust in my usual day job.
I trained as a Pilates instructor for a year in 2012/13 with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute completing all 3 of the matwork levels and final exams. Since then I have maintained my qualifications with CPD courses and self led learning including Pilates for Scoliosis.
My personal style of teaching is mainly about really good technique and having a relaxing positive session. In this way clients can find that missing link to find progress in flexibility and control through body awareness. I enjoy helping clients find a deeper understanding of how their body works and how useful Pilates principals are to supporting our health and well-being in our day to day lives. Primarily I teach the Mixed ability class on a Saturday morning. Teresa’s studio is a bright and well equipped environment which makes it possible to adapt and tailor exercises for any client level. A great way to start your weekend!

Pilates Teacher
I am starting the second phase of my career by switching from advertising to life as a Pilates teacher.
I love sharing the benefits of movement and the impact that being more connected provides at whatever age or condition.
I trained for 2 years on mat and equipment with Evolve Movement Education, Hove, Brighton.
“I have been going to Teresa’s Pilates class for about 2 years, her classes are well structured, light hearted and enjoyable. She takes time to ensure all understand and can do the exercises. I have introduced 2 friends to her and they both still enjoy her teaching. She has also been working with my 14 year old son to help him improve his posture. Her classes have really helped to improve my chronic lower back pain and have improved my core strength for competitive riding.”
“I have been attending Teresa’s Pilates class for around three years and I have found it to be invaluable in supporting a chronic back condition. Teresa’s style of teaching is fun, motivating and nurturing. She has a great way of explaining each move and a subtle way of getting us to push ourselves to make progress and take the moves to the next level over a period of time. I always feel relaxed, stretched and aligned after a class and, for me, regular Pilates is the best way I’ve found to manage and eliminate my back pain. I thoroughly recommend Teresa’s classes.”
